NaCSA Commissioner Meet IDMC Director

Geneva, Switzerland Friday 13 October 2023- In a bid to promote President Bio's vision to mitigate disaster and climate risks in Sierra Leone, the Commissioner at the National Commission for Social Action (NaCSA), Ambassador Ernest Mbaimba Ndomahina has paid a courtesy call on the Director of Internal Displacement Monitoring Centre (IDMC), Madam Alexandra Bilak, by re-echoing NaCSA’s humanitarian intervention and the promotion of community based demand driven activities.

He noted that these development activities alleviating poverty and enhancing collaboration with relevant line Ministries, CSOs and other partners to ensure sustainability.

While introducing Ambassador Ndomahina to the Director, the Head of Chancery and Minister Counsellor, Mr Edward Kawa, reiterated that the significance of displacement, and the need for effective collaboration with the Embassy to support synergies on data collection and disaster response framework.

Commissioner Ndomahina and Director Bilak shared there respective programmes mandates and interventions in disaster response and recovery, lessons learnt from the mudslides, storms, flooding etc that resulted into mass Internally Displaced Persons affecting the livelihood of vulnerable persons and protecting and helping them recover.

The Commissioner extended open hands to receive the Director and team in the country as a way to identify support and increase coordination between the two agencies.

In her short remarks, the Director of Internal Displacement Monitoring Centre (IDMC), Madam Alexandra Bilak, welcomed the team from Sierra Leone to work and expressed the need for coordinated synergies for effective data collection and disaster response framework.

She disclosed that a team from the IDMC have planned to visit Sierra Leone on 31 to 4 November 2023 to meet with Sierra Leone National Disaster Management Agency, other relevant Ministries, Departments and Agencies and non-state actors in Sierra Leone.
